Care and attention for your music

Your song has an intention, a way of breathing and a personality. My job is to listen, understand what you’re looking for and help every element find its place.

I’m Jose María Fernández. I work online with bands and solo artists worldwide, with a particular affinity for rock, jazz, folk, film scores and experimental music. My approach is eclectic: I’m interested in what each composition calls for, including when it takes an unusual direction.

When mixing, I look after balance, dynamics, space and detail without losing sight of the whole. I aim to help instruments and voices work together, with the technical work supporting the musical expression.

If you’d like, we can also discuss arrangements, instrumentation or composition choices. I can contribute ideas and explore alternatives with you; we make decisions about your music through conversation.

Before we start, I listen to your material and we discuss your references, questions and expectations. We agree on the scope, deliverables and revisions, with a friendly approach and commitment on both sides.

Mixing file requirements

Important: I only work with files at a minimum of 24 bits.

I’ll check your files first to make sure everything is ready for mixing.

File delivery requirements

  • Bit depth: 24-bit minimum (ideally 24-bit or 32-bit float). I do not accept 16-bit files.
  • Sample rate: 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz (keep the original rate).
  • Format: WAV/AIFF without processing (no limiter, compressor or effects), unless agreed otherwise.
  • Headroom: peaks < -6 dBFS, with no clipping.
  • Consolidation: all audio starting at 0:00, with the same duration and sample rate.
  • Mono/stereo: export each track as it was recorded.
  • Reference (optional): reference mix and notes (BPM, intention, comments).
  • Basic track editing is included, using Logic Pro only.
  • Editing and clean-up: edited tracks with no unwanted noise.
    If needed, I can edit them after reviewing the material (additional cost).
  • Includes a brief document with notes (target LUFS, reference tracks).
